How many years have you been a participant at Mudfest?
This will be my third Mudfest.
What made you first sign up for the Daniel Barden Mudfest and what keeps you coming back?
In the last couple of years, I’ve become a big fan of Obstacle Course Racing (OCR).  I’ve raced a number of Spartan races.  I have to say that the 5 miler DBMR course is competitive with the corporate races in terms of the trail and obstacle intensity.  What first drew me to the Daniel Barden Mudfest was how close it was to home.  What keeps me coming back is the quality of the course, community, and the cause.  Three things that are near to my heart.
What’s your favorite Mudfest memory to date?
Last year after finishing up the 5 miler, I competed in the 5k with my son and his friends.  The boys absolutely loved it.  I felt like I was opening up their world to a new sport.  They’ve been talking about competing again ever since. They even managed to pull a bunch of their friends in to race this year.
What would you say to someone who is still on the edge about signing up for the Daniel Barden Mudfest?
For those new to running I would encourage them to sign up for the 5K instead of the 5 miler.  It’s fun and non-competitive.  You decide how much you want to push yourself.  There are plenty of walkers on the course and people of all ages and athletic abilities.  Get a friend to sign up with you and have a blast together.  If you have been running road races for a while, you should definitely sign up for the 5 miler.  After you get done doing one of these OCRs, you won’t want to go back to the road.
You can join Erik and more than 1,500 people during at the 6th Annual Daniel Barden Mudfest on April 14th — REGISTER TO RUN TODAY!
