Kelly Snyder of Madison, N.Y. is the Coordinator of Writing and Rhetoric and the Core at Colgate University, and a four-time Mudfest participant. In fact, it was a priority for her to participate in Mudfest when she turned 50 for a sense of personal accomplishment. She’s enjoyed being a part of the event with friends and family by her side, especially her sister Shelley.

Kelly recommends preparing for the event by hitting the gym, taking advantage of the incline feature on the treadmill and using weights. “It’s a challenging course, with lots of hills with obstacles. You need good arm strength,” she advises.

Most of all, though, Kelly says you can’t beat the day of fun and camaraderie you’ll experience at the Daniel Barden Mudfest.

“At the end, it’s a feeling of personal pride and accomplishment. You need to rely in the help of others. My best advice is to not take it so seriously, and just have fun with it,” she says, adding, “And the party at the end is a total blast!”
