The Mudfest is named after Daniel Barden, who was one of the first graders killed in Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012. Daniel will always be remembered for his kind spirit, sense of generosity, and friendship. The niece of the organizers lives next door to Daniel’s family. The goal of the Mudfest is to nurture and grow Daniel’s spirit in all of us.
The first Mudfest in 2013 drew more than 1,000 runners, and double that in spectators. Runners came away from the event basking in a life-changing experience. You may find yourself running alongside a mother from Seattle, an executive from New York City, or a farmer from Central New York. People are drawn to this race because you will push yourself in ways you never dreamed, and then revel in the friendship, conversation, and music that follows.
