DEANSBORO, N.Y. – Mud, music and memories await at the 5th annual Daniel Barden Mudfest on Saturday, April 29.
The event at MKJ Farm in Deansboro features a 5-mile obstacle course, a 5K obstacle course and a kids’ half-mile obstacle course. Each course features both natural and manmade obstacles such as mud-filled pits, water logged terrain, hills, monkey bars and ropes courses.
The 5-mile race is a competitive timed event that kicks off at 9 a.m. The 5K run is for people of all abilities and heats take off from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Heats for the kids obstacle run begin at 11 a.m.
There will be music along the course, including Gary Robertson Jr., and outside of the barn after the event will be music by Simple Props, Grit n’ Grace, Alternate Universe, Crushing June and Third Stone Blues, featuring a special guest.
DJs from WOUR and K-Rock will entertain runners along the course, as well as Rockin’ Ron. After the event, there will be food from Ray Brothers BBQ and the Celtic Harp.
The event is held in honor of Daniel Barden, one of the first-grade students killed in the Sandy Hook shooting in December 2012. The niece of one of the event organizers was at Sandy Hook Elementary School that day, and although she escaped unharmed, her friend and next-door neighbor, Daniel Barden, did not.
Proceeds from the event benefit the Daniel Barden Adventure Scholarship. Winners of the scholarship will participate in a 78-mile canoe leadership experience through the Adirondacks in July.
To register for the event, visit bardenmudfest.org. Participants can register online until midnight on Thursday, April 28, or they can register the morning of the event at MKJ Farm in Deansboro.
